General (Ret.) James “Jim” McConville is an Operating Partner at AE Industrial, working with portfolio companies and evaluating investment opportunities across the defense and government services sector. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of AE Industrial portfolio companies: Edge Autonomy and REDLattice. Prior to joining AE Industrial, he served as the 40th Chief of Staff of the United States Army, from August 2019 to August 2023, where he was responsible for overseeing an organization of 1.2 million personnel with a budget of $185 billion. His leadership and modernization initiatives led the Army through its most significant transformational efforts in more than 40 years and included the adoption of a new information age-focused talent management platform, as well as new weapon systems. Among his numerous accomplishments as Chief of Staff, he navigated the Army’s COVID response, natural disaster support, and force deployments across the globe. He was also instrumental in fostering international relationships with allies and partners, increasing cooperation, and reinforcing the presence and reputation of the United States in the global arena. Gen (Ret.) McConville’s notable command assignments include serving as the 36th Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Army and the longest ever tenure as commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division. A master aviator who commanded forces in both Iraq and Afghanistan, he possesses Army aviation qualifications in the AH-64D Longbow Apache, OH-58 Kiowa Warrior, AH-6, AH-1 Cobra, and other aircraft.
